Formed in 2004 by Jaime Heredía, Emilio
Maya, Katrina Edbrooke and Harold
Burgon, La fabrica del Flamenco is a non profit
organisation which promotes and supports flamenco artists.
We aim to create archives of photographs, video and
audio to help promote flamenco and give flamenco artists
the opportunity to make professional recordings for
use as promotional material or to sell independently.
In 2007 the association registered Andalamusica as a
record label so that flamenco artists can register their
recordings and collect royalties.
Born in the Granada neighbourhood of the Albaicín he began to sing listening to
his mother, his grandfather El Parrón, and above all
his uncle, Juanillo el Gitano. By the age of twelve
he was well known for singing in the caves of the Sacromonte
and the Peña La Platería. Later he would collaborate
on the flamenco show "Macama jonda". Following the family
tradition he taught his daughter Marina Heredía to sing,
a relationship which was explored in the documentary
"Dawn in Granada" along with the dancer Manolete and
his daughter. Jaime spent his life singing, not only
in Granada, in Flamenco festivals and clubs, but also
travelling to India, China, Europe, America, Japan,
Egypt and Morocco. Jaime sang on the CD 'Grana cante
por Tangos', 'Villancicos del Sacromonte', and Emilio
Maya's 'Temple' as well as his own CD 'Pan con Aciete
y Azucar'. He was also a member of the flamenco group
'Los Faraones' alongside other singers from Granada
such as El Charico, El Tirado, Antonio Campos y Manzanitas
performing in theatres in Sevilla and Granada.
Emilio began playing flamenco guitar aged 8 and won his first flamenco competition
aged 12. Since then he has accompanied artists such
as Carmen Montoya, Lalo Tejada, El Lele, Juan Manuel
Flores, El Toro. En 1990 he formed Grupo Maya performing
alongside artists such as José Mercé, Aurora Vargas,
Juan Habichuela. Other collaborations with singers include
La Nitra, Chonchi Heredia, Estrella Morente, Marina
Heredia, and with dancers such as Juan Ramírez, Juan
Andrés Maya, Ana Calí, Ivan Vargas, and Fuensanta La
Moneta. He toured Brasil with the dancers Antonio Canales
and Juan de Juan in 2001 and with Mario Maya in his
show 'Amargo' in 2005/6. Emilio recorded his first CD
'Temple' with the producer Harold Burgon and consequently
toured with his group throughout Europe. As a member
of the group 'Tres Guitarras de Granada' he has performed
in Korea, France and America.
After many years experience working with music in the
UK Harold came to Granada in 1997. From the beginning
he was working with Flamenco artists such as Estrella
Morente (Mi Cante y un poema, Calle del Agua) Enrique
Morente (Mastering the homaje to Lorca 'De Granada a
la Luna'). As a producer he has worked with artists
such as Jaime Heredía, Marina Heredía, Pablo Maldonado
(Almanjáyar) Taller de Compás (Cale Calé) and Emilio
Maya (Temple).
Katrina came to Granada in 1997 along with her husband
Harold. She studied Spanish and Latin America Studies
at the North London University and Granada. As a promoter
she has organised flamenco concerts in the UK, Croatia,
Germany, Belgium, North America and Canada with flamenco
artists such as Emilio Maya, Victor 'El Charico', Antonio
Campos, Juan Angel 'El Tirado', Taller de Compás, Fuensanta
'La Moneta', Ana Calí and La Repompa amongst others.
